KIMONO DRESSING

KIMONO DRESSING

Japan’s traditional outerwear garment, the kimono – or literally translated “thing to wear”- refers to a long robe with wide sleeves made in various fabrics and patterns. Though currently worn only on formal occasions, most of us have more than once wondered how it would be like to borrow some of the geisha’s delicacy – they’re the first ones that strike my mind when thinking about kimonos – by incorporating the aforementioned piece of art into our own wardrobes. Fortunately, in the last few seasons the designers traveled eastward, so there’s no wonder the Spring 2015 runways were flooding with different reinterpretations of the traditional costume – obi-inspired accents, traditional Japanese materials or prints evoking the Land of the Rising Sun, they’re all stepping forward, set to conquer the streets this season. Shots from the runway, plus what’s currently in stores, down-below.
