COUTURE FASHION WEEK

COUTURE FASHION WEEK

After a delightful Men Fashion Week month, time has come for women to steal the spotlight again with one of the season’s most important fashion events – FW’14 COUTURE FASHION WEEK. Showcasing art at its best, the big names of fashion exceeded themselves with dreamy creations, transporting us in a magical dimension where art, nature and contemporary fashion blend in the most exquisite imaginable way. Although I enjoyed every single collection featured these last few days, I must admit some of them captured my attention more than the others. Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel show bedazzled once again not only through its beautiful location and the amazing baroque inspired setting but most of all through the collection and the fabric some of the styles were made of: CONCRETE. Apparently taking inspiration from the great architect LE CORBUSIER, the great designer demonstrated the material’s versatility and hidden beauty, displaying a string of concrete beads, under the noses of the fashion elite: ‘”IT’S HAUTE COUTURE WITHOUT COUTURE” he said. The amazing mix of fabrics continued throughout the show, promoting the youth-ifying of Couture, to suit the contemporary times.

Giambattista Valli found his inspiration in the Alhambra Gardens, imagining a glamorous party-goer, who has the power to transform any outfit into couture, even if we’re talking about her beau’s shirt and a white towel. Throughout the collection there were references to the beauty of Alhambra’s flowers, the heat in the gardens and a certain Catholic strictness surrounding the area. The show’s finale displayed a color extravaganza, the breathtaking feather and tulle skirts styled with striped bodies stating that Couture is ready for a new type of customer.

Dior is synonymous with Couture and Raff Simmons showed it better than ever, taking inspiration from the past centuries, from Marie-Antoinette’s silhouettes to astronaut’s jumpsuits and back to the embroidered court jackets and back to the present’s designs. Each one of the designs were versatile enough to be incorporated in our daily wardrobe, making Couture more accessible to our reality.
