FILMS AND FAVES, CANNES ’14
After talking dresses and celebrities, after analyzing every hair and makeup style on the Red Carpet, after sneak peaking – through the pages of the magazines – to every glamorous party on the French Riviera, time has come for me to remember that Cannes Film Festival means more than all of the above… after all it is about celebrating some of the best movies of the year, it’s about rewarding the ones who allow us to experience a life we may never get the chance to live if it wasn’t for the big screen. Not wanting to look ignorant in front of you guys, I took matters into my own hands by taking a closer look at the movies competing for the Palme D’Or – and I can definitely say some of them conquered my heart even more than the gowns featured on the Red Carpet.
I’ve made a short selection of my favorites so far – waiting for your opinion on them and on your other picks!
1. TIMBUKTU
A story about religion, terror and people struggling to face the humiliation of the fundamentalists, determined to defeat an open and tolerant Islam.
2. SAINT LAURENT
Bertrand Bonello’s ‘Saint Laurent” is a tribute to one of History’s biggest fashion designers, Yves Saint Laurent. Though the reviews about this production are mixed, I am willing to give it a try.
3. LE MERAVIGLIE
This is the story of three sisters raised by an overprotective father, whose strange rules begin to break once a young German boy arrives in the community.
