NYFW BEAUTY – JASON WU, MARC BY MARC JACOBS & OSCAR DE LA RENTA
Jason Wu’s collection was mostly about luxurious daywear – feather and embellishments were left out in the favor of cropped trousers, cashmere coats and fox furs (a leitmotif of the season). To match the quiet glamour of the collection, the models wore barely visible makeup – the kind that makes you wonder: did she wake up like this? – and fuss-free wavy hair exuding that sometimes hard-to-get natural sophistication we sometimes spend hours to achieve – apparently, so do they.
Positive protest was the theme of Marc by Marc Jacobs’ third collection under the creative wand of Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley – some would state their greatest statement yet, from the idea behind the show, to the strong shapes and the utilitarian feel of the William Morris-inspired clothes, many of them accessorized with studded berets, live symbols of the revolutionaries. The hair and makeup exuded the same rebellious vibe, messy waves and black eyeliner becoming the trademark of the protesters, who feel that by shouting their vows, they can build a better World.
Oscar de la Renta was on everyone’s lips last night when Peter Copping made his debut as the late designer’s successor. Despite the fact that he had only three months to put together a collection that’s not only worth writing about because of the house’s background, but celebrates the work of his larger-than-life predecessor, Copping managed to rise to the expectations, infusing a touch of young elegance in his ultra-feminine collection- cashgora coats with embellished pockets, mink, ruffles, tones of violet, an impressive blend of the past and present. Sophistication was the word to describe best the models hair and makeup, French Twist flawless updos and black eyeliner against neutral lip gloss, completed perfectly last night’s manifesto of elegance.
