BLING THING

BLING THING

ARE THE DIAMOND RING’S DAYS REALLY OVER?

With summer in full glory and weddings as numerous as mushrooms after a pouring rain – how I dream about a good, heavy rain these canicular days – seems like every magazine I open is overfilled with bridal dresses, bachlorette party tips, honeymoon destinations, and so on. Although I am usually skipping this type of articles, not because I have something against weddings and their traditions, which I totally love, but because most of them don’t really offer anything new and I can’t help feeling that reading one it’s like reading them all. Still, browsing through the pages of Vogue these days, my eyes popped out when reading a title as interesting as it was shocking: “PUT A RING ON IT – NOT JUST A DIAMOND ONE” – where the author Lizzie Garrett Mettler calls into question the importance of the diamond engagement ring, naming also some of the industry insiders who follow her path. Reading this has seriously got me thinking: is it important to have a diamond engagement ring on your finger? – although I wouldn’t go as far as stating it’s uncool – for me diamonds will always remain a sign of elegance – I completely agree that showing your love and devotion towards your significant other has nothing to do with diamonds. I also understand the women who just don’t feel like handling all that useless pressure that comes along with it – the annoying questions asked by relatives, friends and even strangers: Where is it from? What kind of a cut? How many carats? Besides, there’s always the fear of loosing it or attracting pickpockets who wouldn’t mind cutting off your finger just to get their hands on a big rock.

Thinking of all those stylish ladies who never dreamed of princess-like weddings and enormous rocks on their finger, I started my search for the chicest engagement rings the shops have to offer these days – and even though my first choice will always be the traditional diamond ring, I must admit I found some pretty impressive replacements out there. I posted pics of my favorites down below, hoping they will serve you as an inspiration! Enjoy!
