7 WAYS TO PREPARE YOUR SKIN FOR THE COLD WEATHER
The bleak dark clouds cover the powerless sun with their impenetrable curtain, the chill in the air brings crispness to the leaves piled up on the grey concrete and the kiss of ice gets more threatening each morning: it’s only a matter of days till a sparkling white sheet will cover the last memories of summer, putting to bed everything vivid and alive. It’s only a matter of days till the chilling subzero winds will start biting each inch of skin left exposed to it, lending the cheeks and ears an unnatural red hue – not the discreet rose color we get in spring, but a crimson, violent shade, showing a glimpse of just how damaging even the smallest bite of winter can be to our complexions. To protect our skin against the rough beauty conditions ahead, I searched for the best tricks to keep it smooth and fresh till spring steps out of winter’s pale blanket.
1.Switch to a rich moisturizer
While lightweight lotions are perfect for summer months, richer formulas are a great option in winter, as they protect against temperature and humidity extremes, fighting cold-weather dryness. Search for ingredients as beeswax, vitamin C and shea butter.
2.Use a milky cleanser
3.Focus on sensitive areas
Some parts of our bodies require a bit of extra care when it comes to weather extremes. Apply a moisturizing balm to your lips to prevent cracking and chapping, and moisturize your hands at least twice a day.
4.Wear gloves and socks after moisturizing
Each evening before bed – or even during sleep if you’re not uncomfortable with it – slip into a pair of cotton gloves and socks immediately after moisturizing. They’ll help cream penetrate the skin more effectively; for best results to keep them on at least for an hour.
5.Take shorter showers
Though they feel wonderful during a cold day, hot showers are pretty damaging to the skin as hot water leaves the skin dehydrated and can even irritate it. For the wellbeing of your skin, it’s best to stick to warm, shorter showers.
6.Stay ahead of stress factors
The winter holidays are packed with fun but they also bring along lack of sleep, stressful days of preparations, alcohol and fatty foods. Combined, they could lead to unwanted acne that’s most likely set to ruin your time. Trying to minimize the stress factors in your life as well as cutting back on sugar could be the effective solution.
7.Use sunscreen
Just because the sun is hidden under a thick curtain of clouds doesn’t mean you can skip sun protection. Apply sunscreen regularly, especially when you’re spending lots of time outdoors.
