8 BEAUTY BENEFITS OF HONEY

Frenetically searching for natural made beauty products, I noticed there are not more than a few ingredients that, without exception, make it to the shortlist in most of the DIY recipes; one of them: the oh-so-sweet honey. Thanks to its antibacterial properties and its phytonutrient antioxidant compounds, raw honey improves the appearance of two of our main assets: the skin and the hair. Here are 8 of the miracles this precious nectar found on the shelves of our local grocery stores can do to improve our appearance:

  1. Acne Treatment

Packed with antibacterial and antifungal properties, honey is an excellent cleanser for acne, calming irritation in no-time. Just apply raw honey on the affected area and rinse off after 10 minutes.

  1. Moisturizer

Full of antioxidants, raw honey is great in our fight against the signs of aging; its extremely moisturizing properties assure long-last hydration, restoring the skin’s natural glow. Spread a thin layer of raw honey on your face, leaving it on for 20 minutes; rinse with cold water.

  1. Scar fader

Due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial compounds, honey increases the healing process, promoting the regeneration of the affected tissue. Due to its bleaching effect, raw honey can dramatically fade even old scars. Mix 1 tsp. raw honey with 1 tsp. olive oil, then apply to the affected area, massaging with your fingers for 1 minute. To obtain the desired result, repeat on a daily basis.

  1. Hair conditioner

Loaded with moisturizing nutrients, raw honey is a wonderful hair conditioner, restoring the shine to dull hair. Mix 1 Tbs. of honey with 1 Tbs. olive or coconut oil, using your hands to disperse the mask on your hair. Rinse off after 15 minutes.

  1. Lip scrub

If you’re craving for soft and smooth lips even in the cold season, raw honey is a great alternative to lip scrubs. Mix 1 tsp. raw honey with 1 tsp. brown sugar and a few drops of lemon juice, then apply on your lips. Exfoliate after 2 minutes.

  1. Dark circles remedy

Due to its bleaching and inflammatory properties, raw honey is great in treating the dark circles. Apply 1 tsp. raw honey to the affected area, rinsing off with cold water after 20 minutes. For the best results, repeat once a week.

  1. Sunburn treatment

Containing powerful anti-inflammatories, raw honey calms sun-burned skin, increasing the healing process. Its moisturizing properties also help restore hydration to the sun-exposed skin. Mix raw honey with aloe vera gel and apply on the affected area.

  1. Honey Bath

To restore the smoothness to your body during the cold weather months, add two cups of honey to a tub of warm water. Soak for 15 minutes.
