NYFW READY-TO-WEAR

The fifth day of NYFW FW 2015 was one of my favorites to observe so far. Why? Simply because it gathered names like Victoria Beckham, Altuzarra and Alexander Wang – three of the designers I wouldn’t mind draining my piggy bank for.

Alexander Wang’s show was dominated by all-black outfits – which contrary to the opinion “all-black means flat” – managed to keep the audience’s interest alive, mixing together elements borrowed from the black enthusiasts like the Goths or the heavy metal culture. The “morbid” vibe was emphasized by the models attitude, displaying wet-looking hair covering their pale complexions. Though spiked embellishments, black velvet and leather predominated in the show, there were also flashes of color in checked coats, blue jeans and oversized knits embellished with silver chains – my personal faves.

ALTUZARRA knows just how to make a woman feel provocative and super-powerful – I don’t know any woman who wouldn’t want that. The designer stayed on his usual path, showcasing thigh-high slit skirts and neatly tailored jackets, paired with knee-length boots in studded leather or lace, with tiny white ruffles at the top. As a novelty, this season his collection featured menswear elements inspired from the 18^th century, juxtaposed with ultra-feminine silhouettes – a camel checked jacket against a ultra-feminine lace dress, or a masculine jacket with a rich fox collar teamed with a thigh-high front slit sequined dress. Looks like a collection made in heaven, isn’t it?

VICTORIA BECKHAM is one of the designers who’s creations would make even a hopeless tomboy exude effortless sophistication. The dress was – as expected, I would add -the leitmotif of her latest collection, becoming an edgier version of the ones she displayed in the past. The avant-garde vibe of the VB dresses was highlighted by a series of sculptural coats displaying oversized shoulders and high collars.
